

Thomas Edwin Burris of Columbus, Ohio passed away early Wednesday, July 26. He fought hard for three months after a severe stroke in April. Tom was born in Cambridge, Ohio, on January 16, 1949 to John and Mabel (Farrar) Burris. He will be missed by many, but especially his “favorite” (& only) brother Terry and sister-in-law Carol Burris, numerous loving cousins and their children, and many wonderful friends and neighbors. Tom also gained special friends from his team of support at Ohio Living Westminster Thurber, who provided excellent care. He was a 1967 graduate of Cambridge High School and a 1971 Ohio University graduate in Radio and Television. Tom had a successful broadcast career and was blessed with a strong deep voice and a talent for storytelling. He began his news career at WTVN Radio and later moved to WTVN TV where he was an on-air news anchor, and a host of a popular midday news show. He was recognized for his special feature stories called “Someone You Should Know.” During his television career, Tom met and interviewed numerous national celebrities and famous personalities. He was also the local host of the Jerry Lewis Telethon. Tom was an excellent writer, and after leaving broadcasting he excelled at writing and video production for local companies and national corporations. His VoiceOver work was also heard on many broadcast commercials and video documentaries. Tom loved living downtown and became a big fan of the Columbus Crew, Clippers, and Blue Jackets. He always enjoyed getting involved in his neighborhood. He became a good friend to almost everyone who met him. He was truly…someone you should know.
