Thomas Ray "Tom" Main, 82, passed away unexpectedly on August 2, 2021. He was born to Merrill and Gladys (Woodward) Main on March 9, 1939 in Cedar Rapids, IA. After graduating high school, he attended Bowling Green State University, where he earned his bachelors in Business. He was part of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity during his time there, and made many life-long friendships. After school, he worked for his father at Col-Mer and later at Vargo Associates.
Tom was known for his weekly golf outings with his golf group, enjoying playing 9 holes (or as many as they could). He so looked forward to them, they were marked weeks in advance on his calendar. He was also known for "Putzing" around the yard, taking his time mowing, trimming trees, and tending to his garden. He was a man of faith, regularly attending church and asking family members if they, too, had attended service that day. Mostly, though, he was known for his love of his family. Tom loved their Sunday Dinners and any time they got to spend together.
He will be remembered as a kind and caring person, as a "gentleman, and a gentle man."
Tom is preceded in passing by his parents; nephew Christopher Main; and beloved furry companions Daisy and Sugar.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 56 years, Barbara; his daughters Kathy (Chris) Combs, Tracy Main, and Susie Main; brother Richard "Dick" (Laura) Main; and nephew Matthew (Liz) Main.
Visitation will take place on Monday, August 9, 2021 from 5pm-7pm at SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST, 1051 East Johnstown Road, Gahanna, 43230. Masks are advised, but not required in the building. Tom's service will take place at SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST the following afternoon at 1pm.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Tom's memory to Citizens for Humane Action, New Albany Presbyterian Church (6648 Walnut Street New Albany 43054) or a charitable organization of your choice.
