Thomas Cecil Woolley died September 2, 2012 at Licking County Memorial Hospital in Newark, Ohio, from complications due to advanced Pulmonary Fibrosis.
Tom was born Nov. 5, 1922 in Cleveland County, AR. He was the fourth of seven children born to Henry “Frank” Woolley and Avie Iyalena Hyatt-Woolley. Thomas' sisters were Era Woolley-Glover and Effie Woolley-Brown; his brothers were Henry Wooley, Ralph Wooley, Ellis Woolley, and Elvin Wooley.
Tommy grew up in the Cleveland / Jefferson Country area of Arkansas. When he was 17 he moved to Texas and worked in the shipyards outside Houston until he was old enough to join the U.S. Air Force. From 1943 to 1949 Tom served in the European Theater of World War II, as communications officer on a C-47 cargo plane.
After his honorable & decorated discharge Tom returned to Arkansas, then moved to Ohio where he spent the next 20 years. While in Ohio he lived in Mansfield, London, Hebron and Brownsville. He worked in a fiberglass plant, a Rockwell plant and as an Ohio State Trooper.
In 1968 Tom moved back to the Jefferson/Cleveland County area of Arkansas, bought some land in Rowell, AR and build a house. He worked at the Pine Bluff Arsenal as an Engineering Technician from 1968 until his retirement in 1988. While there he received many awards & acknowledgments, such as having his name listed in the Library of Congress for assisting in the creation of a formula & technique for mixing dry fusions.
In 1994 Tom moved to Lufkin, TX to be near his daughter Pat in his retirement years. In declining health, Tom moved back to Newark, OH in 2011 to live with his eldest daughter.
Thomas married four times and was widowed three – his wives were Alverta Grimes (from Houston, TX), Jacqueline Ramolet, (from Versailles, France), Elizabeth Kathrine “Betty/Bessie” Kidd (from Beattyville, KY), and Jo Evelyn Wiltz (from Beaumont, TX)
Tom had 4 children: Brenda Joyce Woolley-Holman, Patrica Ann “Pat” Woolley-Scogin, Daniel Amie Woolley, Vonnetta Kay Woolley-Dougan.
13 Grandchildren: Thomas Holman, Robert“Bob” Holman, Debra Holman, Lashell Scogin-Carrick, Michael Scogin, Craig Woolley, Thomas C. “Chris” Woolley, Joe E. Woolley, Elizabeth Jacqueline Woolley, Angela Woolley-Lewis, Michelle Dougan, Rebecca Dougan-Bookout, Darrell Dougan.
20 Great-Grandchildren. Rylee, Logan, Jacob, Darby, Brady, Delaney, Shelby, Megan, Andrew, Ariana, Chelsie, Morgan, Kylie, Mackenzie, Timothy “Michael”, Nik, Zeke, Clayton, Kiara, & Abigail
and 1 Great-Great Grandchild: Aubrey
Per his wishes, his body will be cremated and there will be no service.
Tom was a man of honesty, integrity, loyalty & respect. He was loved and respected by more people than he ever realized. He was the most honest, matter-of-fact, 'cut the crap', 'tell it like it is' person I have ever known. He will be missed. If you wish to honor him – be a little bit more like Tom Woolley today. Be a little more honest, a little more respectful to the people you see today.
