

Umit was born in Istanbul, Turkey, on June 19, 1947, to the late Sekip and Bilge Atillasoy Ozguner. He is survived by his wife Fusun Ozguner, daughter Ceylan Ozguner (Alex Majors), son Tolga Ozguner (Leslie), and grandchildren Noah and Serena Ozguner.
He grew up in Istanbul, Turkey, where he attended an English-speaking high school through which he met his wife Fusun. They both attended Istanbul Technical University, then moved to the U.S. to attend graduate school at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, where he earned his Ph.D.
Professor Emeritus Umit Ozguner taught at the Ohio State University for over 35 years, teaching Electrical Engineering with a specialty in autonomous vehicles. He mentored many students through their doctoral degrees and beyond over the years, and continued to do so up until his passing. He also authored or co-authored several books and hundreds of papers in various journals on electrical and computer engineering and intelligent transportation. Additionally, he started his own business in 1985 called Oztech Inc., which specializes in autonomous vehicle solutions for the government and the private sector.
When not working, he enjoyed spending time with family and traveling the world with his wife of almost 55 years, Fusun.
Services are entrusted to Schoedinger Northwest at 1740 Zollinger Road in Upper Arlington in conjunction with Abubakar Islamic Center.
