Virginia V. Jones

Virginia Varley Jones, born July 28, 1934 died April 2, 2024. Virginia had a bright beautiful mind from beginning to end. She loved her family fiercely and described herself as a bulldog when facing adversity. Virginia loved all things new- babies, flowers, days, and seasons. She was an avid gardener, sailor, scuba diver and spent most of her free time in, on or around the sea- which is where she will return. She graduated from The Ohio State University in 1951 and was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority.

Virginia is preceded in death by her mother Helen (Fitzwater) Varley ; father John Varley; brother Johnny Varley and sister Marlyn Cherry.

Virginia is survived by her husband Zane Jones; daughters, Laura Poisson and Lynette Poisson-Zurcher; sons, Steve Poisson and Chris Poisson; sister Linda Hunter, stepchildren; L Zane Jones, Richard B Jones, Gordon C. Jones, and Keith R. Jones; grandchildren Mitchell Green-Poisson, Phillip Green-Poisson, Olivia Newell and Leyland Zurcher; great grandchildren Adalyn, Madeline and Reese.

I am standing upon the seashore. A ship, spreads her white sails to the moving breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength. I stand and watch her until, at length, she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other. Then, someone at my side says, “There, she is gone.”

Gone Where?

Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast, hull, and spar as she was when she left my side. And, she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port. Her diminished size is in me - not in her. And, just at the moment when someone says, “There, she is gone,” there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices ready to take up the glad shout, “Here she comes!”

And that is dying…

Death comes in its own time, in its own way. Death is as unique as the individual experiencing it.
