

W. Reed McClelland, age 90 of Upper Arlington passed away Thursday, October 27, 2011 at Friendship Village. Reed was born in Columbus, on May 1, 1921 to the late Cloys and Grace McClelland. He graduated from Ohio State University, class of 1943. He was a member of the Ohio Delta Chapter of Phi Kappa Psi. Upon graduation, Reed joined the US Navy and served his country during WWII as a Lieutenant. He had a long and successful career in sales at Cottingham Paper Company, retiring as Vice President. He served on the city council of Upper Arlington, and as the mayor from 1990 to 1992. He served and volunteered as the President of the Godman Guild, and later transported blood to various hospitals for the American Red Cross. Reed was a kind and giving man, with a great sense of humor. He left a wonderful legacy for not only his family, but for his friends as well. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Clare; daughter, Grace, and his siblings, Glenn, Leland, Frank and Ruth Heinz. He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Mary; children, Marian “Monnie” (Philip) Tanner of Columbus, Kacy (Cindy) McClelland of Tampa, Fl; stepchildren, Jeff (Joan) Blancett, Robert (Kathy) Blancett, and grandchildren, Christine, Lauren, Clark and Marshall. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at the SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL 1740 Zollinger RD. where the family will receive friends from 5-7 pm, Monday, October 31, 2011 and also from 10-11 am, Tuesday, November 1, 2011.
