Walter is preceded in death by sisters Norma Jean Fagan and Shirley Hanes; son Mark, and granddaughter Tonya.
Walter is survived by his loving wife, Nova Clifton (McKinney) of 63 years; daughters, Laura, Karen, Ellen and son Scott, 28 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, brother Ron, and several nieces and nephews.
Walter was a Columbus native, graduate of Linden McKinley High School, and proud US Naval veteran who served as a Petty Officer Second Class Engineman aboard DE-750 USS McClelland in the 1950s. He was a hardworking man who spent over 50 years working as a Fire Suppression Systems Specialist for Harold Hard and TJ Hard Companies. He was a practical jokester who always knew how to make people laugh. He was the one man that everyone could count on for advice, car repairs, handyman repairs, or just a good buddy to sit and have a chat with. He wasn’t a man of many words and never uttered the words I love you but to his one granddaughter Tonya. He didn’t have to say it because he showed it through his actions to his friends and family. Heaven gained another angel and while his presence will be missed dearly, he is no longer suffering.
Walter’s family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 1, 2021, 2-4pm at SCHOEDINGER NORTH, 5554 Karl Rd with a funeral service to follow at 4pm. Officiant Pastor Paul Gabriel. Guests are respectfully asked to wear a mask and attendance will be monitored to ensure safety for everyone attending.
