

William C. Chard, age 72 of Columbus, formerly of Upper Arlington, passed away Thursday, October 7, 2010. William was born and raised in Columbus. Preceded in death by his parents, Clifton and Mildred Chard. Bill graduated from North High School, Class President of 1956. He graduated from The Ohio State University with a BS and MS from the College of Engineering. He was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. Bill was an innovator who worked as a Ceramic Engineer, and was a member of the American Ceramics Society. Bill retired from Battelle Memorial Institute after 27 years of service, having served as Associate Vice President of Research and Southeast Manager for Battelle at Clemson University. He was working for the National Technology Transfer Center at Wheeling Jesuit University doing research for NASA. Bill’s family was something that he took much pride in. He loved nothing more than spending time together with them, especially the grandchildren. He will be missed by his beloved wife of 47 years, Carole; sons, Dana (Rachel), David (Stavra), and Brian (Sherry); grandchildren, William, Elizabeth, Erin, Nicholas, and Lillian; step-grandchildren, Eric and Ethan; mother-in-law, Dorothy Durham; sister-in-law, Marlene (Tom) Walters; and many other extended family members and dear friends. Memorial Service will be held at 5 P.M. Sunday, October 10, 2010 at First Community Church, 1320 Cambridge Blvd., where family will receive friends from 2 P.M. until time of service. Rev.
