

William David “Rink” Fowler, Jr., 87, of McArthur, formerly of Circleville, passed away Sunday, March 15, 2015 in Athens. He was born December 4, 1927 in Circleville, the son of William David and Rose (Swift) Fowler, Sr. He was preceded in death by his parents; the love of his life and mother of his children, Carol Ann (Hunt) Fowler; son, Jeff; granddaughter, Makayla; sisters and their husbands, Margie and Homer Sark and Rosa Lee “Belle” and Jim Sowers; brother, Jack and his wife Pauline; and brother, Ted.
Rink served in the Navy during WWII and in the Army during the Korean War. He received numerous medals for his service in Korea and is one of the most highly decorated veterans in Ohio.
Rink was a life member of the American Legion, VFW and AMVETS where he was a past commander.
Rink loved the outdoors, whether hunting, trapping, fishing on the Scioto River or golfing. He was an avid swimmer and once saved some folks from the river during a flood.
Rink is survived by his sons, William D. “Bill” Fowler III, Stephen (Tracey-“the daughter he always wanted” as Rink would say) Fowler and Jace Fowler; sister, Georgianne (Kenny) Bensonhaver; sister-in-law, Phyllis Fowler; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many, many friends.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Defenbaugh-Wise-Schoedinger Funeral Home with Dr. Doyne Wiggins officiating. Burial will take place in the Veteran’s Section of Forest Cemetery where AMVETS Post 2256 Honor Guard will provide a military service.
Friends may call on Friday, March 20, 2015 from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
