

William D. Henry, 87, a lifelong resident of Upper Arlington, passed away Sept. 22nd at The Gardens at Whetstone. William was born in 1929 in Mansfield, Ohio to the late Harold H. and Louise (Droxler) Henry. Bill was a 1947 graduate from Upper Arlington High School where he played on both the football and track teams. He graduated from OSU in 1951 and was a member of Phi Gamma Delta. He later graduated from The OSU Mortiz College of Law. Bill practiced law in the City Attorney's Office before moving into private practice for a short time and ultimately retired from the State of Ohio Division of Securities. He had a passion for sailing and cars. In 1956 along with two high school friends, Bill started Imported Motor Car Co. and sold MGs so he could have access to the current models. Bill loved the 4th of July and was very proud of having his 1912 Model T Ford in the UA parade for 64 years. Bill acquired a love of sailing as a young man and was an avid sailor on Lake Erie for the majority of his life. Bill received the "Old Goat" designation for participating in 25+ Pt. Huron to Mackinac Island races. Bill was a member of the Sandusky Sailing Club, Veteran and Vintage Car Club, MG Car Club, and First Community Church. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Loralee, and daughters, Laurie Sampson of Oriental, NC and Janet (Pat) Hannaway of Upper Arlington, OH; daughter-in-law, Kristina Henry; grandchildren, James Sampson, of Haveloc, NC, Robert Sampson of Boston, MA, and Nicole Hannaway of Cleveland, OH; and a loving extended family including many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by two sons, William D. Henry, Jr. and Robert R. Henry; brothers, Harold H. Henry, Jr., Joseph Henry and sister, Virginia Ward. A funeral service will be held on Monday, Sept 26th at 11:30 am in Burkhart Chapel at First Community Church, 1320 Cambridge Boulevard in Marble Cliff. The Reverend James M. Long will be officiating.
