

William (Bill) Edwin Hewitt of Columbus, Ohio passed away peacefully with family at his side on Tuesday, November 20, 2018, at the Heartland of Uptown Westerville Nursing Home. He was known to many as "Gomer" as his CB handle. He was born on July 12, 1944, to William and Edna Hewitt. He was a 1962 graduate of Central High School. From childhood, he developed a love for the Columbus Firefighters and carried that love throughout his life. He wrote a song about his love for the Firefighters, for which he would often sing for his nurses and staff at the nursing home. He selflessly took care of his elderly mother until she passed away in 1991. He loved to help his neighbors and had an ability fix anything. He loved to tinker around with electronics and was very skilled in caning of chairs. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, sisters Elise Ross and Trudy Arledge and brothers Barton and Charles Johnston. He is survived by sisters Barbara Becker and Mary (Margo) Beardsley and brother John (Carol) Hewitt, nephew Charles (Chuck) Johnston who was more like a brother and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. A memorial service is planned for 1:00pm Saturday, December 1, 2018, at the SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 6699 North High Street, Worthington, Ohio 43085. Pastor Scott Lewald officiating.
