

William H. (Bill) Mercer, age 82 of Bexley died Saturday, March 19, 2011 at Grant Medical Center. He was born January 28, 1929 in Columbus. He is preceded in death by his parents, Harold E. and Helen Mercer; step fathers, Kenneth Wagner, Oscar Bausch; step-brother, Conrad Wagner; step-sister, Alice Sue Nixton. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joyce (Jamison) Mercer; children, Paul (Beth) of Hilliard, Peter (Linda) of Grove City, Joy C. (Floyd) Wicks of Bexley; grandchildren, Drew (Ashley), Ryan, Luke Mercer, Daniel (Sarah) Castle, Robert and A.J. Remmenga, Grace, Lydia, Seth Wicks; cousins; Ruth Hoover, Wilma Jean Crabtree. Bill graduated from South High School in Columbus in 1947; Capital University in 1953 with a Bachelor’s Degree; Trinity Evangelical Seminary in 1957 with a Bachelor’s of Divinity. He had an internship at Martin Luther in Canton, Ohio. Pastor at St. Lukes in Derwood, Maryland; Zion Lutheran, Huron, Ohio; Prince of Peace in Poland, Ohio and Good Shepherd in Bexley, Ohio. He was the district representative for AAL (Thrivent) Insurance, courier for Bank One, supplied at a number of congregations in Ohio after retiring from the active ministry. He was an attending member of Christ Lutheran in Bexley, Ohio. Bill was an artist in woodworking; called “Intarsia”, he also made clocks as a hobby. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8pm, Thursday, March 24, 2011 at the SCHOEDINGER EAST CHAPEL 5360 E. Livingston Ave. Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm, Friday, March 25, 2011 at Christ Lutheran Church, 2314 E. Main St., Bexley, Ohio. Pastor Tim Iseringhausen officiating. Interment at Grove City Cemetery. A heart filled thanks to the Columbus squad and to those who took care of Bill in the emergency room and the intense care unit at Grant Medical Center.
