William Pitts

William Pitts, age 81, passed away Tuesday, December 23, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born in Trenton, NJ on October 4, 1933 to the late William Norton and Harriet L. (Jamison) Pitts. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his children, Susan Marie Williams, Billy Pitts, and Karol Poncar; granddaughter, Kara Poncar and mother-in-law, Lesta H. Gothard. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Phyllis (Gothard) Pitts; daughter, Kim (Andy) Woods; daughter-in-law, Sherry (Jim) Willey; grandchildren, Chris, Michele, Kelley, Joe, Heather, Kiel, Ashley, Megan, Katie, and Taylor; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Joan McGovern of NJ and many extended family and friends. Bill proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951-1974. He highly valued learning and education having earned four Masters degrees in various administrations and management. Following his military career, he worked for OSU and St. Anthony's. Bill was a long time member of East Christian Community Church and a current member of Parkview Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed watching the Oregon Ducks and The Buckeyes. Bill was very thankful to the nurses in CCU and palliative care for their care and compassion. A memorial service for Bill will be held at 3:00 pm Saturday, December 27, 2014 at Schoedinger East Chapel, 5360 E. Livingston Ave. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mt. Carmel Hospice, 6150 E. Broad St. Columbus, OH 43213.
