William R. Rayburn, age 79 of Gahanna, passed away Monday, June 9, 2014. Bill was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, only child of the late Russell and Sophia Rayburn. Also preceded in death by his son, Jeff McLaughlin. Bill proudly enlisted in the US Army where he was a Qualified Parachutist. He retired as an engineer from Conrail/Amtrack. Bill was also a part of the music industry for more than 34 years. Bill enjoyed playing harmonica in countless bands and jam sessions, fishing, and truly appreciated and never turned down a good shot of bourbon. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Linda Rayburn; children, Chris McLaughlin, Shelly (Clint) Miller, Michael (Karen) McLaughlin, Wynne Ambrose, Danny (Kimm) McLaughlin, Jackie (Tim) Palmer, and Steve (Christine) Rayburn; 14 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and countless, friends and former band mates. Anyone who knew Bill knew he did not want a traditional funeral service. Instead, he wanted everyone to kick back, relax, and listen to some live music. In the spirit of Bill's memory, he would absolutely love all family, friends, and musicians to gather between 6-9 P.M. Friday, June 13, 2014 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST CHAPEL, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd., for "HIS LAST GIG!" It will be a time to remember, share, and celebrate Bill, and most of all, listen and participate in a live jam session honoring him. Family request no flowers please. Memorial contributions be made to the charity of your choice. To share memories or condolences, please visit www.schoedinger.com .
