

Professor William S. Romoser, 80, of Worthington, Ohio, passed away suddenly on May 5, 2021. Bill was born October 18, 1940, in Columbus, Ohio, to William Karl, M.D., and Clara (Sherburne) Romoser, RN. He attended Eastmoor High School and The Ohio State University, graduating in 1962 with a B.S. in Agriculture (Zoology) and in 1964 with a Ph. D. in Entomology.
He began his professional academic career as Assistant Professor of Entomology at Ohio University in September 1965, advancing to Associate Professor in 1970 and Full Professor in 1976 where he remained until his semi-retirement in 2000 and full retirement in 2010 as Professor of Medical Entomology.

Highlights of his long and rich career include:
· Teaching, research, and mentoring students;
· Four editions of his textbook, The Science of Entomology;
· Twenty-year association with the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRID) in Fort Detrick, MD;
· Co-founder of the Ohio University Tropical Disease Institute, Director, 1989-1998 (https://www.ohio.edu/medicine/itdi);
· Director, International Development Studies, OU Center for International Studies, 1997-2000.
He spent the last decade of his professional life exploring the possibility of life beyond Earth, particularly that of insect-like forms on Mars as he observed them in NASA JPL photographs.
Bill enjoyed a rich personal life with international travel, skiing, canoeing, bicycling, sailing, kayaking, mandolin, movies, motorcycling, and socializing with friends and family. He was thrilled (and surprised) to have hit the slopes at 80.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Margaret Ann (Meeker) Romoser, four daughters, Suzanna Gussler, Anne (Gord) Bell, Regan (Michael) Welch, and Kelley (Christopher) Vogel, four grandchildren (Amirah, Abigail, August, and Matilda), great-grandson (Grayson), sisters-in-law Roberta Ciszewski and Barbara Hores, cousins Rebecca Calhoun and Toni Bacchulis, and nieces, a nephew, and a slew of friends from around the world.
A visitation will be held at The Clubhouse at Ville Charmante Condominium Community, corner of Saint Antoine Street and Saint Michelle Street, Worthington, OH, on Saturday, October 2, 2021, from 2:00PM until 4:30PM. A Memorial Service will be held at 4:30PM and go until 5PM. Park in Visitor Parking areas only.
