

Wilma Verna McClung passed away peacefully on December 4, 2020 at the age of 103 years. Wilma was the second of four children born August 20, 1917, to Edith Haddock Betts and William Thomas Betts of Columbus, OH. Wilma was the wife of the late George W. McClung, Jr. She was predeceased by siblings Irene Williams, Wilbur Betz, and Alberta Lyman. Wilma is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law: Sue Carrol Hoyle (Norman L. Hoyle) of Scottsdale, AZ, and Deborah M. Tracy (Doug Tracy) of New Albany, OH. She also is survived by one granddaughter, Marla Sue Hoyle of Scottsdale, AZ; nieces, Patricia DeBerry of Bluffton, SC, Linda Wise of Dayton, OH, Amy Betz of Columbus, OH; nephews, William "Billy" White of Reynoldsburg, OH, Bernard McClung of Dayton, OH; and cousins, Dennis McGee of Columbus, OH, and Kyle McGee. In addition, Wilma will also be missed by "forever family" Kay Sanford Roan, Gary Roan, Cynthia Barnett (Ranford Hopkins), Michael Shelby, Christine Hoadley, and Malia Hoadley.
During her childhood, Wilma spent time living in both Columbus and Barnesville, OH, and she graduated from Barnesville High School in 1935. After marrying George W. McClung, Jr., they had successful careers working together in the pharmacy industry, where she provided bookkeeping and George was a pharmacist. Their careers culminated in ownership of Woodland Medical Pharmacy in Columbus, OH, for approximately 25 years. Wilma was a founding member of the Columbus Chapter of The Girl Friends, Inc. Also, throughout her life, Wilma was a devoted member of St. Paul AME Church. In recent years, she resided at Otterbein SeniorLife in New Albany, Ohio.
At this time, there will not be a memorial service due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A private graveside service is planned at Glen Rest Memorial Estate in Reynoldsburg, OH, with a Celebration of Wilma's life in the future. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul AME Church, 639 E. Long Street, Columbus OH 43215.
