

Winifred Amy “Winni” Dunton, 85, of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, died Tuesday, November 27, 2012. She was born Mt. Vernon, New York to John B. and Amy Dunton. She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, John B. “Jack” Dunton. Winni was the beloved sister of Nancy Dunton (Jim) Dorsey, Mt. Vernon; much loved aunt of Bart and Lisa Dunton, Chagrin Falls, Ohio; Bill Dunton, Burton, Ohio; Allison Dorsey and Dan Gordon, Scottsville, Kentucky; Sue Dunton, Auburn Township, Ohio; Jay Dorsey and Beth Waller, Gambier, Ohio; and Marty and Tori Dunton, Acme, Pennsylvania. She was a graduate of Chagrin Falls (OH) High School, earned a B.S. in Chemistry from Miami University (1948) and a J.D. from John Marshall Law School (1961), and was admitted to bar in October 1961. Winni served as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Ohio; and for most of her career, worked as an attorney in the Office of Civil Rights Compliance, U.S. Department of Justice until her retirement in 1991. She was formerly a member of Cleveland Young Republicans, Pilots International in Columbus and Washington, D.C., and Players Theater, Columbus. She ran unsuccessfully for the Ohio House of Representatives (from Cuyahoga County) in 1960. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 1, 2012 at SCHOEDINGER LINDEN MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 2741 Cleveland Avenue, where friends will be received after 10:00 a.m. Saturday.
