Anita K. Schmidt

Anita K. Schmidt of Congers, NY, 90 years old, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 8, 2024. She is survived by her children Susan (Daniel) Mahoney, Edward (Beth) Schmidt and William Schmidt. She was the beloved grandmother of 5 granddaughters Julia, Emily, Amanda, Katie and Maggie. She was predeceased in death by her loving husband of 53 years, Ernest.

Anita was born to Karl and Alberta Nilsson on July 25, 1934 in Los Angeles, CA, but was later raised in Centerville, Iowa. Anita married Ernest Schmidt in 1957 and raised their 3 children in Congers, NY, a town she loved dearly.

Anita enjoyed her senior meetings, her weekly hair appointments and loved nothing more than Sunday gatherings with her family. She looked forward to dinners out with friends and family and always saved room for a scoop of ice cream.

She was a bright light and had a quick wit, even up until her 90th birthday and her house was a constant revolving door of family and friends. We will strive to keep her legacy alive in our hearts and emulate her unwavering faith, bravery, positivity and endless love and commitment to her family.

Wake hours will be held Thursday, September 12, from 4-7 PM at Higgins Funeral Home 113 Lake Road Congers, NY 10920. A graveside service and burial at 11:00 am will take place Friday, September 13, at Gethsemane Cemetery at Rockland Lake, Congers, NY.
