Born on July 25, 1942 in Suffern, NY, Dave was a graduate of Suffern High School in 1961. As a teenager, he worked at his family’s restaurant and eventually started his own luncheonette. He later earned a degree in Criminal Justice from Rockland Community College.
Dave also served in Vietnam for the United States Navy, and later joined the Clarkstown Police Department where he served as an officer for over 37 years. His life of service also expanded to acting as Sloatsburg Village Trustee, including police and fire commissioner, along with being a member of the Suffern Fire Department.
His immediate family will remember him as someone who adored his wife Sheila (and his beloved cat Meg), and gave opportunities to his children to pursue their own passions. He was truly happiest at the “Mellon Patch” (his lake house for over 40 years, which he largely built with his own hands) in Old Forge, NY where many joyous family gatherings took place each year. During the holidays, Dave’s talents as an electrician helped create an expansive miniature Christmas Village of trains, shops, and amusements which he proudly shared with family and friends, and anyone from the community who wanted to witness the marvelous display.
A visitation for David will be held Thursday, January 16, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Service, 113 Lake Rd. E., Congers, NY 10920. A funeral mass will be held at 10am on Friday, January 17, 2025 at Saint Paul's Church, 82 Lake Road, Congers, NY 10920.
