Mr. Edward (Ned) Emerson Meara Sr., 82, of Bluffton, South Carolina, beloved husband of Anne Meara, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, March 9, 2021. Ned is survived by his wife Anne and four children including Kim (Meara) Slinn and husband Steve, Ned II and wife Renee (Cuccia) Meara, Thomas (TJ) and wife Susan Meara, Jeffrey Meara and long-time companion Maureen Wiss, as well as the children’s mother Elaine Meara. Ned spent 40 years living in Rockland County, NY and was married to his love Anne for 31 years. He was active in county politics for most of those years. Ned was very active in youth sport programs where he was President of the Pop Warner football program for nearly 20 years. He was awarded the Pop Warner “Man of the Year” honor as the program grew to embrace over 350 children, taking young athletes to many championships in the areas of pee wee, junior varsity, varsity, cheerleading, and Indianettes. Ned was also the manager of the Congers Dodgers baseball team for many years and coached his teams to several championships.
When Ned and Anne retired to Cape Cod, MA he became active in the famous Cape Cod Baseball League for top collegiate players throughout the country during the summer months. He volunteered with the Dennis-Yarmouth Red Sox, which was a fitting team to offer service as Ned revered the Boston Red Sox since his youth. Ned and Anne wintered in Naples, FL where he became President of the Homeowners Assn. Board and supported the community through major renovations of the facilities.
