

Eileen was born on October 21, 1935, in the Bronx to Marie (Herlihy) and James Coyne.She attended St. Brendan’s Elementary, St. Barnabas High School, and earned her nursing degree from St. Vincent’s Hospital in 1956.
On January 25, 1958, she met Gary C. Greis on a blind date. By Easter, they became engaged, and on November 29, they married. They welcomed their son, James Brian,in 1964, and their daughter, Ellen Ann, in 1967.
After moving to Congers, NY, in 1966, Eileen worked at Nyack Hospital before becoming the beloved school nurse at Congers Elementary in 1975, a role she enjoyed for 19 years. She was nominated several times for the renowned “New York Nurse of the Year Award” and received the distinct honor in 1994.
Eileen was active in her community, participating in CCD, Cub Scouts, and the St. Paul’s Mothers Guild. She served as a Eucharistic Minister at both St. Paul’s Church in Congers and St. Catherine’s Church in Spring Lake, NJ, where she lived for 14 years. She cherished family vacations, crafting, dancing, and her daily “Jumble.”
Eileen is survived by her son, James, and his wife, Shalan; her daughter, Ellen; her sister, Ann Marie (Arthur) Smith; her brother, Vincent (Peggy) Coyne; her sister-in-law, Sally Coyne; and many nieces, nephews, and godchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Gary; her brothers, Rev. James F. Coyne, Raymond Coyne, and Gerard Coyne; her sister-in-law, Kathy Coyne; and her niece, Ginger Smith-Rocchio.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Friday, September 26th, at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home, 113 Lake Road, Congers, NY, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 27th, at 11:30 AM at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Congers. Interment will be private at a later date at Gethsemane Cemetery in Congers.
In lieu of flowers, Eileen’s favorite charities are the American Cancer Society, Hospice, or the T2T Foundation.
