Manny was born in New York, NY on March 24, 1942 to Frank and Marie Urzi, and enjoyed a wonderful childhood raised in Brooklyn. In 1967 he married the love of his life, Virginia Aversa, and they spent the next 55 wonderful years side by side. In 1977, Manny and Virginia moved to New City, NY where they would raise their three children and host large family gatherings for the next 45 years.
Faith was a central foundation of Manny’s life. He was devoted to Lady of Lourdes and wore the miraculous medal every day. Manny worked for the NY State Department of Taxation and Finance for 50 years and loved his job. He and Virginia were survivors of the 9/11 attack, harrowingly escaping the South Tower on that day. That being the exception, he would often say that not a day went by where he didn’t love going to work.
Perhaps Manny’s greatest love and joy was for his family, where his generous and joyous spirit endeared him to everyone. He loved helping and taking care of his extended family, whether it be cooking amazing meals, helping with home improvements, or just offering support and advice. Manny will be missed terribly and forever loved by his family and friends.
Manny is survived by his loving wife Virginia, his daughter Mary and sons Frank and John, his son-in-law Jon and daughters-in-law Kathy and Olga, and 10 grandchildren Justin, Julia, Olivia, Nicholas, Zachary, Theresa, Emanuel, Christina, Anna, and Johnny. He is also survived by sisters Dolores and Chickie, and siblings-in-law Mike, Mike, Ellen, Joe and Guizelda, close family Steve, Chris and Amelia, and pre deceased by brother-in-law John and cousin Angelo.
Family will receive friends on Thursday from 4-8 pm at Higgins Funeral Home in Congers, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, 10am, at St. Augustine’s Church, New City, followed by interment at St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Nanuet, NY.
