George Walton Armston, 86, of Flagler Beach, FL passed away on Friday, September 23, 2011 at Florida Hospital Flagler. He was born on December 12, 1924 in Whitinsville, MA to the late George and Nellie Armston. As a young man he served in the US Navy during WWII as a deep sea diver and gunner (Naval Armed Guard) on a "Liberty" ship. George was one of the owners of West Point Motors and Toyota of Newburgh in NY. In 1995 he and his wife moved to the Palm Coast area from Congers, NY. His memberships included St. Sebastian Catholic Church in St. Augustine, former Commander of the VFW in Palm Coast; a lifetime and charter member of the Lions Club in Monsey, NY, where he also served as governor of his district and counsel chairman for the state of New York, and a 4th degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus. George was a pilot and owned a Beechcraft Bonanza; also a Captain of the Civil Air Patrol. He was a seasoned sailor of his yacht "Sunshine II", and could be seen traveling in his RV.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Rosemarie; sons, Greg, and his wife Linda Armston of Manahawkin, NJ, George Jr., and his wife Stacey Armston of Norwood, NJ, Gary and his wife Laura Armston of Hohokus, NJ; daughter, Robin, and her husband Ron Bennett of Southwick, MA; step-son, Brian, and his wife Mary Marley of Monroe, NY; step-daughter, Jane, and her husband John Errico of Congers, NY; 17 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Viewing will be held on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9pm at Higgins Funeral Home in Congers, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday at 9:30 am at St. Paul's Church in Congers, NY followed by burial at Fred Loescher Cemetery, Spring Valley, NY.
