George Donald Kent died on Tuesday, December 27th at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, New York. Born on July 31, 1931 in Bournemouth, England, he was a beloved husband to Joanna and a wonderful father and grandfather to five children and two grandchildren. George was a good man, who instilled in his five children the love, values and beliefs that made all who knew him feel lucky for that opportunity. Fearless, he and Joanna traveled across the world with the children in tow never allowing anyone or anything to limit the way they wanted to live their lives. People gravitated to his sparkling, warm personality. All who met him loved his gentlemanly ways and sense of humor. Always cheerful and fun-loving, he made all those around him feel optimistic, and hopeful. When George shared his life experiences and understanding of the way the world worked he offered life tools for forward looking positive thinking. To all of us, George was "made of stars." He was a loving protector to his wife and daughters and the role model for strength and goodness to his sons. His innate strength and life force was the motivation for his children to work to achieve the same semblance of dignity, decency and contribution to the world. George served in the Royal Air Force and competed in the Air Force Boxing Corps fighting under the moniker "Killer Kent." George's left hook could not help him win this fight. But, to all who knew him, George was our Champ. He was a beautiful, loving, charismatic, funny, wonderful man, and his family is deeply grieving this tragic and terrible loss.
George will be buried on Friday, December 30 at 11:30 am at Gethsemane Cemetery in Congers, New York. Flowers can be sent to Higgins Funeral Home in Congers. A gathering will be held following the burial service at his daughter, Elizabeth Kent's home. Future memorial service details will follow for January 21, 2012.
