Harold Roland Gyllenhammer
March 3, 1931 – November 13, 2018
Harold Roland Gyllenhammer of Congers, NY, passed away in his sleep on November 13, 2018 at the age of 87. A resident of Congers since 1956, Roland lived in the house he and his wife built with their own hands and the help of many friends and family. He was born on March 3, 1931 to Eva and Axel Gyllenhammer. He was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers union where he retired as a draftsman working on some of New York’s landmarks such as Yankee Stadium, The World Trade Center and the Statue of Liberty. In his spare time, he coached Congers Little League and Senior League baseball teams and, after retirement, volunteered for many years at the Historical Society of Rockland County. He enjoyed travel, projects around the house and babysitting his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Elaine, brother, Robert, and sons, John, Nils, Carl and Paul. He is also survived by the five grandchildren whom he loved to dote on so much. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be deeply missed.
Family will receive friends on Sunday, November 18 from 2-4 pm at Higgins Funeral Home at 113 Lake Road East in Congers, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Historical Society of Rockland County, 20 Zukor Road, New City, NY 10956.
