James F. Guilfoyle of West Nyack passed away peacefully on May 15, 2018, he was 88 years old. Born in the Bronx, NY on December 27, 1929 to Charles and Marie (Ryan) Guilfoyle. He was a resident of the Bronx until he moved to West Nyack in 1966.
James served in the US Army as a paratrooper with 82nd Airborne Division. He was a member of the FDNY for 31 years, stationed at Engine 63 and Ladder 39 in the Woodlawn Section of the Bronx, and retired in 1990. James was an avid golfer and enjoyed cooking and gardening, but his greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
James is survived by his wife Mary, his daughters; Janet (Matthew) of Temecula, CA, and Mary Beth (Nick) of Longmont, CO, his sons; James (Jessica) of Sugarloaf, NY, and Sean (Christine) of West Nyack, NY. He is also survived by his 9 grandchildren and his brother, John. He was predeceased by his brother Charles.
Visiting will be held at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home in New City on Friday, May 18 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 19 at 10am at St. Anthony Church in Nanuet, interment will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in James’ memory to Uniformed Firefighters Association, 204 East 23rd St., New York, NY 10010 C/O: The UFA Widows’ and Children’s Fund.
