

John was born in the Bronx on May 12, 1944,to Grace and John Mangan.Raised in Manhattan, John attended Sacred Heart grammar school and Xavier High School. He earned a degree in Civil Engineering from Manhattan (College) University, later received his Master’s degree from New York University, and went on to earn his Juris Doctor degree from Pace University Law School.
In 1967, John married the love of his life, Katherine McIntyre, before entering the United States Air Force, where he proudly served as a Captain stationed in Texas and then Taiwan. After honorable discharge, John and Katherine returned to Rockland County and made their home in Congers, where they raised their two children, Katherine and John.
John was deeply devoted to his family, his community, and his career. A longtime Congers resident, he dedicated countless hours to local organizations and community service. He served as President of Congers Little League for nearly 20 years, where he helped establish the Girls’ Softball program and positively impacted generations of local families. He also served on the Architectural Review Board and the Veterans Memorial Association.
John spent 48 years with Verizon, serving in various management positions throughout his distinguished career. He was respected for his strong work ethic, leadership, and commitment to excellence.
John is survived by his beloved wife Katherine;his daughter Katherine and her husband Edward; his son John and his wife Shirley; and his five cherished grandchildren, Brittany, Julia, Jack, John, and Summer, who brought him immense pride and joy.
John will be remembered as a kind, gentle, intelligent, and selfless man whose quiet strength and unwavering dedication to those he loved left a lasting impression on everyone who he knew. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate John’s life onWednesday, May 20 th from 3:00pm to7:00pm at Higgins Funeral Home in Congers, NY. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday at 11:30am at St. Paul’s Church in Congers, followed by a burial at Gethsemane Cemetery at Rockland Lake.
