Kathleen Francis Haggerty (nee Hurley)93, passed peacefully at home on March 21, 2026, surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Kay was born on Dec 3, 1932, and was the daughter of Bridget (Sheridan) and John Hurley, who emigrated from County Cavan and County Cork, Ireland. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Jerry, her sisters Mary Sheehan and Joan Russell, and her grandson, Colin.
Kay grew up on Creston Avenue in the Bronx, where she was raised in a close-knit Irish family that valued faith, hard work, and togetherness. She attended St. Simon Stock from elementary through high school. After graduating, she began her professional life at NY Life Insurance Company. Kay made several trips to Ireland with her father, forming cherished memories with her extended family. In 1957, Kay met the love of her life, Jeremiah Haggerty. They were married on August 23, 1958, and began a devoted partnership that spanned 56 years. They made their home in the Bronx and later settled in New City, NY, where they raised six children. Kay and Jerry’s faith, sacrifices and love for each other set the foundation for a wonderful childhood for their children.
Kay returned to the workforce as a part-time assistant at U.S. Monitor Service and through her work ethic, rose to the position of General Manager before retiring. In retirement, Kay continued her lifelong commitment to service. She volunteered as a Eucharistic Minister, taught CCD, helped in her local parish office and was a weekly volunteer at Catholic Charities Food Pantry. She was also a cherished member of the Clarkstown Seniors Club.
Kay’s life was anchored in faith, family, and friendship. Her family admired her energy, resourcefulness, and organizational skills. These abilities were evident in feeding a family of eight on a tight budget and instilling the importance of household chores in her children from an early age. Kay greeted everyone with a radiant smile making people feel instantly welcomed. Kay was an avid walker and enjoyed a Manhattan cocktail with Lays potato chips. She often credited these as her secret to good health and longevity.
Kay is survived by her six devoted children: Susan (Tom), Michael (Jody), Joan, Stephen, Jeannine (Phil), and Barbara (Raul), her grandchildren: Alaina, Jennifer, Emily, Danny, Taylor, Brian, Michael, Katie, Kira, Julia, Conor, Shannon, CJ, Christian, and Mia, and great grandchildren: Sofia, Ophelia, Hudson and Michael, along with many nieces, nephews and Godchildren. Kay’s legacy of patience, self sacrifice, and resilience will live on in generations to come.
