Leonard James Zinna, lovingly known as Lenny, 72 years old, of Congers, NY, passed away May 3rd, 2021 after a courageous, year long battle with bladder cancer. He was born on January 24, 1949 to William and Rita Zinna and spent his childhood in the Bronx among many cousins and friends.
He graduated from St. Helena’s High School and St. John’s University. On May 27th, 1972, he married the love of his life, Denise and they had one daughter, Janielle. In 1977, they moved to Congers, NY where Lenny spent the rest of his life.
Lenny owned a retail fish store named Zinna Brothers in the Bronx with his brother Joey for 28 years and then worked at the Fulton Fish Market until his retirement in 2014. Following his retirement, he helped to care for his mother, Rita and in 2018, he began caring for his grandson several days a week. He was active in the Knights of Columbus for many years, was very involved with St. Paul’s church in Congers and was beloved by all who knew him. He was humble, selfless and a dedicated family man. Lenny loved to read and watch sports (especially the NY Yankees and NY Giants) and cowboy movies on television. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially on his deck with his dog and maintaining his lawn and pool.
He is survived by his wife Denise, 102 year old mother Rita, daughter Janielle Kovacik, son-in-law Chris and Grandson Locklen. He is also survived by his Brothers Frank and Joseph (Kathy) and his sister Patricia Tricario (Michael) and his nieces and nephews, David, Jared (Elizabeth), Nicole, Joseph, Jr. (Krystal), Victoria Rose (Brian), Michael Tricario (Brittany), Amanda Tricario and Danielle Tricario as well as many great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, William and nephews, Jason and Ryan.
