Rosemary Cummings

Rosemary (Rosie) Cummings, a 60 year resident of Valley Cottage, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at the age of 90 surrounded by her loving family. Rosemary was born in Manhattan in 1927 to John and Rose (Keihm) Reynolds. She grew up in the Inwood section and graduated from George Washington High School. As a young woman, Rosemary worked at Macy’s Herald Square and New York Telephone. In 1949 she married the love of her life Thomas Cummings at the Church of the Good Shepherd and in 1958 moved to Valley Cottage where they raised their seven sons. Rosemary was an active member of St. Paul’s School Mother’s Guild and the PTA in the Nyack Public Schools. She worked for many years in the Volunteer Services Office of Nyack Hospital from which she retired. The family would like to thank the staff of the Tolstoy Foundation Nursing Home for their care and kindness. Rosemary is survived by her seven sons and their wives, Thomas and Christine, John and Jeanne, Bernar and Kerry, Paul, Christopher and Noreen, Peter and Marie, Joseph and Tara. Her seventeen grandchildren: Erin, Thomas, Megan, Matthew, Colleen, Brendan, Martin, Gerard, Emily Rose, Ryan, Erin, Caroline, Julianne, Katie, Peter, Casey Rose and Sean. Her six great-grandchildren: Grace, Lydia, Brian, Kelsey, Thomas and Dylan. She is predeceased by her husband Thomas in 1982, daughter-in-law Karen, and her siblings, Kathleen, Joseph, John and Helen. Rosemary’s wake will be held at the Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home, 113 Lake Road East, Congers, NY on Tuesday April 3 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Paul’s Church in Congers on Wednesday, April 4 at 10am with burial to follow at Gethsemane Cemetery.
