Born on May 14, 1946, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Rosemary was the beloved daughter of Rose and Patrick Tooman. She was raised in the South Bronx, where she attended Saint Jerome's Grammar School and proudly graduated from Aquinas High School in 1964.
Rosemary spent cherished childhood summers in Rockaway, where she made lifelong friends. After graduation, she began her career on Wall Street. It was during that time she met the love of her life, Henry Helmer, at a bar called The Cuckoo’s Nest. They were married in 1968 at Holy Spirit Church.
In 1973, Rosemary and Henry moved to Rockland County to raise their growing family. She divided her time between the Bronx and Candlewood Isle, always making space for family and tradition. Rosemary took great pride in her Irish heritage and was renowned for her famous Sunday dinners, which brought together generations.
Rosemary’s greatest joy was her family: her children Tyrone and Lori Helmer, Kevin and Tracy Helmer, Max and Colleen and Patrick Helmer. She was the proud grandmother of six grandchildren: Skyler, Jack, Finnegan, Eva, Troy, and Ryan. She also leaves behind her beloved dog, Coco.
Rosemary was predeceased by her husband, Henry, in 2011. She was a devoted member of Saint Paul’s Church in Congers, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister for over 30 years.
