She was born Feb. 17, 1944 in Ireland, eldest daughter of the late John 'Jack' and Louise Binnie, and was educated in England. She was predeceased by her husband John 'Joe' Mayo, in 2014.
Shelagh came to the U.S. in 1966, working in many fields including MetLife Insurance, Rockland Co. S.P.C.A., Bell Metal Fabrication, and Landau Ethan Allen. She loved reading, gardening, sewing, animals, volunteering at Elmwood Playhouse as a costumer, and was a life member of Hillburn Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by her step-children Sara, Casey and Shane Mayo of New City, N.Y., a brother, Capt. John R. Binnie of England, sister Susan E. Fairlie of Scotland, niece Martha Fairlie of England, nephews Daniel Fairlie of Scotland and Thomas Fairlie and Simon Binnie of England, great-nephews Logan and Rafe, and many extended family and friends.
Visiting will be held Sunday, March 10, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A burial Frederick Loescher Cemetery will occur Monday, March 11, 2024 at 11:00 AM.
Flowers are welcome, but if wished, donations may be made in Shelagh's name to your local Volunteer Fire Dept., or Elmwood Playhouse, Nyack, N.Y.
