Obituary of Dorothy G. Sturgis
Longtime Connersville resident, Dorothy G. Sturgis, 96, died Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at Fayette Regional Health. Dorothy was born in Knoxville, Tennessee on December 26, 1921 to Arthur Walter and Bessie Lee Humphrey Booher. She moved to Connersville with her family in 1928 and attended Connersville schools where she later earned her general education diploma. Dorothy was employed for 26 years at Booher’s Dry Cleaning after working for ten years in the Adult Education Program at the Fayette County School Corporation. In 1989, she retired from Hasslers Cleaners. Dorothy was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church, serving in many capacities including church clerk and Sunday School teacher for over 50 years. She was a former member of the American Business Women, Riley Cheer Guild and Fayette Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. In 2016, Dorothy was honored by the Hope Center with the Spirit of Hope Award. Dorothy is survived by her daughters and their husbands: Virginia L. Robinson, Viola M. Wheeler and Joe, all of Connersville; Connie S. Haselby and Jon of Richmond, Diana K. Waddell and Brad of Connersville; her brothers: Harry J. Booher of Connersville, Jerry L. Booher Arbuckle of Lanesville; eight grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren with another on the way; nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Paul L. Sturgis, two sons: Jackie Edward Hahn and Ronald Elsworth Hahn; brothers: Arthur Jack Booher, Irvin Edward Booher and Daniel J. Booher Arbuckle; two nieces and one nephew. Funeral services for Dorothy will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor John Reynolds officiating. Public graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Dale Cemetery. Friends may visit at the church Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. where memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund.
