Obituary of Grace A. Brown
Grace A. Hostvedt Brown, 74, of Connersville, died Saturday, April 28, 2012, at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis. Grace was a native of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, born November 1, 1937 to John and Esther Daily Hostvedt both of whom preceded her in death. In 1955, she graduated from Lincoln High School there and attended the University of Wisconsin. Grace continued her education at the Northwestern School of Technology in Minneapolis, MN where she was certified as a laboratory technician. While employed at Fayette Memorial Hospital in Connersville, she met Maurice L. Brown and they were married October 9, 1959 at the First Congregational Church in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin. Grace later attended Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis to become a registered histologist. She was a member of the Central Christian Church and the Young At Heart group. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Dulcimer Society and the Fayette County Extension Homemakers where she had served as county chairperson. Grace was an avid bowler, enjoyed playing the dulcimer and riding the motorcycle with her husband. She received several awards for her knitting, cross-stitch and crochet projects at the Fayette County Free Fair. Grace is survived by her husband of over 52 years; two brothers: Donald J. Hostvedt and his wife, Sally of Merrill, WI; Thomas B. Hostvedt of Plover, WI: several nieces and nephews and their spouses, including: Jacqueline Diggins and Geno of Stevens Point, WI; Helen Hostvedt of Coon Rapids, MN; Sarah Monti and Jeff of Merrill, WI; John Hostvedt of Plover, WI; James Hostvedt and Kimberly of Merrill, WI; great-nieces: Leah Monti, Bella Monti and Grace’s godchild: Olivia Grace Hostvedt, all of Merrill, WI; a sister-in-law: Irene Earlywine of Centerville; brother-in-law: Dale Brown of Portland. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at Central Christian Church with Rev. Alan Terlep officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Cambridge City. Friends may visit at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and after 12 noon Thursday at the church.
