Obituary of Hazel L.  Copper
Hazel Louise Copper, 98, of Connersville, died Saturday, February 3, 2024, at Heritage House Rehabilitation Healthcare Center in Connersville. Hazel was born on November 1, 1925, to Layman and Gladys Crosier in Zenith, West Virginia. She married George F. Copper on May 31, 1946, at the East Side Methodist Church. Hazel worked at McQuay-Norris in the tabulating department from 1943-1947. She was a school secretary for 22 years at Grandview School and she worked at Union Savings and Loan. Hazel joined her husband as a bookkeeper and in sales at Copper Furniture and Appliance Store until the store closed in 1988. She was an avid reader and enjoyed her family and friends. She was a member of First Baptist Church, having served as a Deaconess, Chair of the Flower Committee, Church Clerk and choir member for many years. Hazel also volunteered at Fayette Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Eastern Star #347 and the Connersville Culture Club. Hazel is survived by two children, Jill (Jerry) Woodyard of Miamisburg, Ohio and George W. “Bill” Copper of Everton; grandchildren, Brooke (Neill) Knue, Kathryn (Jeremy) Joseph, Betsy (Russ) Freshwater and Josh Copper; 9 great-grandchildren, Keagan, Caden, and Quinn Knue, Kolten, Braxton, and Trey Joseph, Curtis, Tyler and Jake Freshwater; sister, Marsha (Lloyd) Schenkel; sister-in-law, Jane Crosier and Jody Crosier; several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by, her husband, George Copper; parents; brothers, William “Bill” Crosier and Gene Crosier. Memorial contributions may be made to the Everton Volunteer Fire Department, 5495 IN-1, Connersville, Indiana, 47331. Visitation for Hazel Louise Copper will be Friday, February 9, from 12:00pm to 2:00pm at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, 920 Central Ave. Connersville, Indiana. The funeral service will start promptly at 2:00 p.m., with burial to follow at Everton Cemetery.
