Mildred Bowles

Obituary of Mildred Bowles
Mildred Bowles, 75, of Plainfield and former long-time resident of Everton, went to her heavenly reward Sunday morning, September 11, 2011. Mildred was born March 8, 1936 in Kirksville, Kentucky, the eldest child of John “Jaybird” and Effie Keen Rogers. Her family moved to Brownsville when she was seven years old and later to the Everton area. She attended Everton Elementary School and Connersville High School. On June 30, 1956, Mildred was married in West College Corner to Earl L. Bowles, who died June 15, 1995. She was a member of the Kingsway Christian Church in Avon and a former member of the Everton Homemakers Club. Mildred took care of area children for several years and enjoyed gardening in her leisure time. Mildred was a loving, friendly person who will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Mildred is survived by her siblings and their spouses: Jim Rogers and Joyce, Barbara Copper and Bill, Wanda Spurgin, all of Connersville, Patricia “Janie” Day of Cambridge City, Pam Wright and Charlie of Rushville, Joyce Kirk and Kenny of Plainfield and Anna McWhorter of Delphi, Ohio. She is also survived by two children and their spouses: Lita Caldwell and Gary of Plainfield, David Bowles and Beth of Springfield, Missouri; a step-daughter: Mattie Ann Ott and Arnold of Greensburg; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years and four sisters: Roxanne Rogers, Johnetta Craycraft, Betty Hammond and Mary Gauche. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral, Myers Chapel Connersville, with Pastor Tom Jackson of the Tuxedo Park Baptist Church, Indianapolis, officiating. Interment will follow in Everton Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 2 until 3 p.m. Wednesday where memorial contributions may be made to the Lord’s Table or to a charity of choice that supports those in need.
