Obituary of Richard D. "Dick" Wilcox
Richard D. “Dick” Wilcox, 72 of Franklin County, died Wednesday, January 20, 2016, in the emergency room at Fayette Regional Health Systems. Dick was born December 3, 1943 in Richmond to Roy and Alice Miller Wilcox. In 1961 he graduated with the final graduation class at Brownsville High School. Dick was a veteran of the U.S. Navy where he attained the rank of Fire Control Technician 2nd Class. Following his military service, he was employed at Roots Blower. Dick retired from Cinergy and its predecessors as a supervisor after 38 years of service. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Brookville and had also been a member of Christ Presbyterian Church in Richmond where he had served as a deacon. Dick was a true patriot whose number one love in his life was God and his family. He liked Harley motorcycles and John Deere tractors. Dick was an outdoorsman that relished living in his dream home in a dream location. He was a former member of the AMVETS and American Legion. Dick is survived by his wife of 30 years, the former Elsie L. Richardson who he married November 9, 1985 in Jellico, Tennessee; his children and their spouses: Richard D. “Rick” Wilcox and Rachel of Connersville; Dena R. House and Brian of Centerville; six grandchildren: Bridia Morgan and her husband, Chris of Clayton, Ohio; Christian Wilcox, Hannah Dudley, both of Connersville; Tyler House of Centerville, Taylor Wilcox and Kira Austerman, both of Connersville; a great-grandson: Micheal Morgan and another due soon to be named, Conner Morgan; Dick's sister: Mona Jones and her husband, Estel of Liberty his sister-in-law: Hazel Wilcox of Liberty; several dearly loved nieces and nephews; and Dick's mother-in-law, Mae Richardson of Everton, with whom he had a special bond.. In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his brother: David Wilcox and his sister: Wanda Quante. A celebration of Dick’s life will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, with Pastors Mike Holman and Rick Melugin of the First Baptist Church in Brookville, officiating. Interment will follow in Abington Cemetery in Wayne County with military honors. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday where memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church in Brookville, P.O. Box 194, Brookville, Indiana, 47012.
