Obituary of William Gene Hall
William G. "Bill" Hall, Sr., 89, of Connersville, died Thursday, September 14, 2017, at his home with his wife of sixty-seven years and his family by his side. Bill was born in Fayette County on October 19, 1927, to Vern and Emma Thompson Hall. He attended Connersville Schools and in 1945 enlisted in the US Navy serving in the Seabees. Bill married Mary Lacy, on June 3, 1950, at Calvary Baptist Church in Connersville. Bill was a mail carrier for the United States Postal System and retired in 1985 after twenty-eight years of service. He attended Calvary Baptist Church and was a member American Legion and VFW of Connersville. Bill enjoyed his time in the country and was actively maintaining his acreage until a few short weeks ago. In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by four children and their spouses: William G. Hall Jr. and Cindy of Muncie, Richard Hall and Olya of Carmel, Becky Flannery and Jack of Connersville, and Brenda Coleman and Rick of Connersville; a sister: Viola Plummer of Connersville; nine grandchildren and their spouses: Lacey and Dave Baker, Ben and Danielle Sherwood, Rob and Stephanie Coleman, Chris and Sean Hall, Hayley and Ted Oarard, Kate and Travis Gwyn, Emily Coleman, Patrick Hall, Daniel Hall; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Vern Hall Jr. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 20, 2017, at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel in Connersville with Pastor Kim McHale of Calvary Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Dale Cemetery where Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by Fayette County Veterans Council. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until time of service where memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund.
