Helen Evangeline Cole

Helen Evangeline Smith Cole, of Covington, GA, June 6, 1922 – August 18, 2012. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 22, 2012, at Advantage Funeral & Cremation Services, Conyers Chapel (formerly Horis A. Ward, Rockdale Chapel), at 2:00 p.m., with Leonard Austin officiating. Interment will follow at Crest Lawn Memorial Park, in Atlanta.

Mrs. Cole left this life to join the loved ones that have gone before, parents Calvin & Holly Smith, husband J.W Cole, brothers Kermit Smith and Lavell Smith, children Dianne and Jimmy Cole. Lovingly know as Nanny Cole she is survived by her daughter and son in law, Sandi and Buddy Austin of Conyers, grand children Leonard Austin of Social Circle, Dr. Jennifer Austin of Swansea, Wales, great grand children, Crystal (and Bret) Benton of Covington, Mandi Austin of Social Circle and great-great granddaughter Bailey Benton. Special grand daughter, Velda Taylor Austin, brothers Glenn Smith and Von Smith, sister Wylene Price, sister-in-law Blanch Smith-Powers, many nieces and nephews and so very many friends.

As a young woman, Mrs. Cole worked and supported her young family through the very difficult and terminal illnesses of her husband and daughter without complaint. Her spirit was that of a giver, always ready to provide her time and assistance to family, friends or strangers in need. By nature she was a productive and active person after retirement from Golden State Foods she never a wasted day. She walked, she loved her flower garden and to travel. In her 70’s she enjoyed taking care of her great grand daughters and well into her 80’s she worked as one of the sample ladies at many local stores. Never wanting to be a burden on anyone Mrs. Cole lived in her own home until last month when she was admitted to the hospital for pneumonia. She will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her. Mrs. Cole was a member of the Central Church of Christ in Covington, GA.
