

Rev. Hugh Ira McCoy, Sr., age 84, of Hampton, GA, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 29, 2010. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, December 2, 2010 at Peoples Baptist Church in McDonough, with Rev. David McCoy officiating. His body will lie-in-state at the church from 12:00 PM to 2:00PM prior to the service. Interment will follow at 4:00 PM at Green Meadow Memorial Gardens in Conyers.
Hugh successfully pastored four churches over a 25 year period and was the Founder and Director of World -Wide Ministries, an overseas literature ministry now reaching into over 187 countries. He began his career at the age of 16, preaching his first service in a Davenport, Iowa jail. At 18, he was drafted and served our country in the US Army, where he organized “Saipan for Christ” and many people were saved. He then went on to study for the ministry at Bob Jones University. His career as a Pastor spanned over 50 years.
He is survived by and will be missed by: wife, Grace E. McCoy of Hampton, GA; daughter, Bonnie (Mark) Lovelace of Chesapeake, VA; sons, Hugh (Peggy) Ira McCoy, Jr., of Dunbar, WI, Rev. David (Patricia) McCoy of McDonough, Mark (Shari) McCoy of Lawrenceville; grandchildren, Jennifer Matsas, Jeffrey Lovelace, Austen McCoy, Lauren McCoy, Meredith Haas, Monica McCoy, Jennifer O’Shields, SSgt. Jaime Clark; 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Carrie Skolnick; brother, Walt McCoy; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Peggy Ann McCoy.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 from 5-7PM at Peoples Baptist Church, 850 Mill RD, McDonough, GA 30253 with a memorial service at 7:00PM. Horis A. Ward’s Rockdale Chapel is serving the family.
