He was born on February 7, 1947, in Sacaton to Allen and Bernice Cannon. Bennett proudly served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in April 1970. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he was awarded both the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for his bravery and service.
Ben dedicated 35 years of his life to teaching, shaping and inspiring generations of students. He also spent 30 years as a river pilot, guiding tours along the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon, where he shared his love of nature and adventure. A true outdoorsman and world traveler, he embraced life fully and found joy in exploring new places.
Known for his vibrant personality, Ben was truly the life of the party, if there was a gathering, he made it unforgettable, and if there wasn’t one, he became the party.
He is survived by his son, Robert “Bobby” Cannon; his partner of nearly 20 years, Robin Holland; his sister, Alma Hernandez; his grandchildren, Lusio, Aidan, and Orrin; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Kristin Largo; his sister, Barbara Cannon; and his brother, Leo Cannon.
