Brett attended Sacaton Elementary School from kindergarten through 5th grade, then continued his education with his 6th grade at Hopi Elementary in Polacca, Arizona. He later promoted from junior high at Casa Grande Junior High and graduated from Casa Grande Union High School.
For 23 years, Brett served as an Archaeological Assistant Crew Chief for Cultural Resources with the Gila River Indian Community. It was there that his appreciation for archeology took a deep root into his Native Culture, strengthened by days spent outdoors with his crew digging, mapping, and carefully documenting the places entrusted to their work. He also took pride in teaching and mentoring new hires, offering steady guidance shaped by experience and a genuine concern for others. In 2025, Brett resigned due to his health.
Brett found comfort and companionship in the life he built at home. He had a deep love for animals, especially his dog, Bruno, who was by his side for 16 years. For more than 17 years, he also shared his home with his best friend, Justin; their bond was enduring and brotherly in every way that mattered.
He enjoyed cooking and carried his faith with quiet sincerity. Baptized Catholic, Brett was a member of Saint Anthony’s in Sacaton, and he knew the Lord.
Those who knew Brett will remember a man of kindness and care, someone who would help anyone who knocked on his door, and anyone in need. His generosity was practical, immediate, and freely given, leaving a lasting impression on the many lives he touched.
Brett is survived by his parents; his sister, Carla; his brother-in-law; his nieces and nephews; and he was a new grandpa to his niece’s new baby girl. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Katherine Smith, and his grandparents, Remolda and Patrick William.
