Johnny was born on October 20, 1955, in Florence, Arizona, to John M. Hernandez and Belen Diaz. He dedicated more than 25 years of service as a correctional officer, where he was known as a hardworking and dependable employee.
Before his illness, Johnny found his greatest joy in the outdoors. He loved spending time working in his yard, fishing, camping, and hunting. An animal lover at heart, he never hesitated to rescue a stray and bring it home. Johnny had a gift for making people laugh. He was talkative, quick-witted, and never met a stranger. His warm personality and sense of humor left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.
Above all else, Johnny cherished his family. His world revolved around his wife, daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. One of his daughter's favorite memories was of her father making up silly songs and dancing just to make her smile. Those moments reflected the love, laughter, and joy he brought to his family every day.
Johnny was also a devoted sports fan who loved boxing and baseball. He faithfully cheered on his favorite Arizona teams, including the Arizona Diamondbacks, Phoenix Suns, Arizona Cardinals, and Arizona State University. He also enjoyed listening to oldies music, which often provided the soundtrack to family gatherings and quiet afternoons.
Johnny is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Rachel Hernandez; his daughter, Daniela Hernandez-Carter; his siblings, Laura Daniels and Manuel Hernandez; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John M. Hernandez and Belen Diaz, and his brother, Jose Hernandez.
Johnny will be remembered for his kindness, laughter, unwavering love for his family, and the countless lives he touched with his generous heart. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
