Selwynn Johnson

**January 6, 1957 – September 1, 2026**

Selwynn Johnson, of Blackwater, was born on January 6, 1957, in Sacaton, Arizona, and passed away on September 1, 2026, in Phoenix, Arizona.

Selwynn was a proud member of the Gila River Indian Community. He attended Stewart Indian School in Nevada, where he participated in various athletics, including cross-country and boxing.

Selwynn proudly served his country in the United States Army for eight years, working his way up to the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was later honorably discharged due to a disability.

Throughout his life, Selwynn remained actively involved in his community and served in several important roles within District 1 and the Blackwater Community, including:

* Blackwater Community Chairman

* Blackwater Housing Committee Chairman

* Blackwater Executive Committee Member

* Recreation Committee Member

* Blackwater Volunteer

* Constitution Reform Representative

Selwynn also worked as a Security Guard for HuHuKam Memorial Hospital.

Selwynn is survived by his significant other, Gloria Eschief; his brother, Carlos Johnson; his son, Godfrey Nish.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Nick, Larry, Ronnie, Richard, Lola, Sandra, Carol, Charlene, Marvin and Van.

Selwynn will be remembered for his dedication to his country, his service to his community, and the many roles he fulfilled throughout his life. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
