Cliff was born in 1925 in Virginia, MN, to Oscar and Anna (Lappi) Eichholz. He grew up hunting, trapping, and guiding fishermen on nearby lakes, including Elbow Lake, where he met his wife, Virginia Mae Kennedy. After serving with the Navy CBs in Guam and Tokyo during WWII, he returned to Minnesota and married his sweetheart.
While living in the Twin Cities, he and Virginia realized their need for a savior and surrendered their lives to Jesus, a decision that would reverberate through future generations. They attended Anoka Wesleyan Church, Way of the Cross Church in Blaine, and finally Living Hope Church in Mora. Clifford worked at John Deere in Bloomington, taking an early retirement from there after 30 years.
He loved to garden and had a large garden at his home, eventually taking courses at the UofM and gaining his Master Gardener’s certification. He enjoyed oil painting and wood carving, creating poignant reminders of the natural world he grew up in and loved so dearly. He spent his final years at Grace Pointe Crossing in Cambridge, bringing joy to so many there.
Clifford was survived by his children, Ray (MaryJane), Wayne (Chhai), Rick (Sherry), Kathy (Bruce) McIntyre, and Dan (April); as well as 31 grandchildren (including spouses); 27 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Oscar and Anna (Eichholz) Tuomi; and his wife, Virginia; as well as all his siblings, Raymond, Elinore Alarcon, Milton, Patricia Burrell, Charles (Bud), and Nancy Olson.
A memorial service will be held at 11 AM, August 23, 2025, at Stanchfield Baptist Church, 38850 Midway St. NE, Stanchfield, MN. In lieu of flowers, contributions to assist the family with memorial expenses are deeply appreciated.
