Donald George Jacobson

Born on June 2, 1938, in St. Paul, Minnesota. He grew up in New Brighton, Minnesota, graduated from Mounds View High School, and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism with an emphasis in Photojournalism from the University of Minnesota.

During his senior year, he served as chief editor of the university yearbook, an early reflection of his passion for storytelling and visual communication.

Following college, Don proudly served his country in the United States military. Stationed at Rocky Mountain Arsenal in Denver, Colorado, he was responsible for media operations. His military service further developed the communication skills and dedication that would define his professional career.

Don began his career at the Star Tribune as Assistant Editor of the Photo Desk before joining United Power Association (UPA), where he was the Supervisor of Marketing Communications. Throughout his career, he was respected for his professionalism, creativity, and commitment to excellence.

Don believed deeply in serving his community. As a longtime resident of Andover, he devoted countless hours to public service, serving on the Andover City Council, as Chairman of the Planning Commission, and as a member of the Public Safety Committee, Personnel Committee, and Road and Street Committee. He also served as Chairman of the Quad Cities Cable Television Commission and the Cable Television Access Committee, among many other civic roles.

After retiring, Don and Carol made their home in Nisswa, Minnesota, where his dedication to public service continued. He served as a Nisswa City Council member, represented the council on planning and zoning matters, and also served on the Brainerd Airport Commission. Whether in his professional career or as a volunteer, Don believed in making every community he called home a better place.

Outside of work and civic service, Don had a wide range of interests. He was fascinated by World War II history, loved science fiction, and held a private pilot's license, combining his lifelong curiosity with his love of aviation. He enjoyed a cold root beer, was known for his dry sense of humor and endless collection of "Dad jokes," and was an active and faithful member of his church. Above all else, Don cherished his family. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a proud grandfather, and a faithful friend whose quiet strength, wisdom, and humor enriched the lives of those around him.

On July 31, 1964, Don married the love of his life, Carol. Together they shared 61 years of marriage, building a life centered on faith, family, and service.

Don is lovingly remembered by his wife, Carol; his daughters, Jennifer Young, Melinda (Steve) Winter, and Amy Erickson; his grandchildren, Noah, Emma, Wesley, and Jack, his sister, Marjorie Breitkreutz and foster sister, Jane Jacobson; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Grace Jacobson; and his foster siblings, Jimmy Jacobson and Joan Jacobson.

A memorial service celebrating Don's life will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Pequot Lakes Baptist Church in Pequot Lakes, Minnesota.

Don's legacy is one of faithful service, integrity, curiosity, and unwavering love for his family. He lived with purpose, led with humility, and found joy in serving others. His humor, kindness, steadfast faith, and deep devotion to his family will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
