(Meshberger)
On Tuesday, June 12, 2018 Edith Marie Swallers took her last breath after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
She was preceded in death by her Husband, Carol David Valder; Granddaughter, Adrienne Valder; and Step-daughter, Carol Swallers.
Edith will be forever remembered by her Husband Clair; her Children, Susan (Richard) Chamberlin, Paul (MaryJo) Valder, Timothy (Lori) Valder, Eric (Corinne) Valder and Zachary Valder (Corey Arp); numerous Grandchildren and Great-grandchildren; Sister, Naomi (Raymond) Morton; Clair's Children, Christopher Swallers and Marsha Swallers; and Loving Friends and Family.
Edith was born on March 28, 1936 in Billings, Montana to Nazarene ministers Elmer and Mahala Meshberger. She attended school at St. Paul Bible College where she met Carol Valder whose first impression was to stir her tea with his finger for lack of a spoon. They married in 1956 and together raised five children in the northern suburbs of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota. After Carol passed away in 1997, she was single for a few years until she met her second husband Clair Swallers. They married in 2001 and have been together ever since. He was her primary caregiver for many years before Edith’s transition to a memory care facility.
Edith was known for her gifts of music and teaching, including piano and violin instruction to adoring students for more than 30 years. She also had a unique spiritual gift of prayer. It was not uncommon to receive phone calls at all hours of the night requesting prayer and words of encouragement from Edith. Even as her memory began to fail, she continued to play her music and pray for people in need.
