Age 90, of Blaine
Passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 22, 2026.
Preceded in death by his loving wife, Juanita Sweet on May 30, 2026; son, Daniel James Sweet; granddaughter, Michelle Margarite Sweet; sister, Janet Haskvitz.
Survived by his children, Deanne Ledin, Della (Steven) Anderson; David (Crystal) Sweet; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren;
also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
James grew up on the family farm, where he learned the value of hard work while farming with horses. He proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Naval Air Force.
James shared a remarkable love story with his beloved wife, Juanita. Together, they enjoyed 67 wonderful years of marriage, building a life centered on family, devotion, and shared adventures. Among their favorite pastimes was spending winters together in Arizona.
Following his military service, James dedicated more than 30 years to Honeywell, where he worked as a supervisor before retiring. Retirement allowed him to devote even more time to one of his greatest passions—woodworking. He served as Vice President of the wood shop, where he crafted many beautiful and memorable pieces. Among his proudest accomplishments was a rocking chair that showcased both his skill and dedication to the craft.
Even after being diagnosed with age-related macular degeneration and being considered legally blind, James refused to let his condition define him or diminish his passion for woodworking.
He continued creating, repairing furniture, and helping others with woodworking projects. He found great joy in teaching others the craft and sharing his knowledge and talents with those around him.
James was also committed to giving back to his community. He generously donated many of his handcrafted pieces to the Minnesota Showmen's Association, helping raise funds for college scholarships and supporting future generations.
James will be remembered for his strong work ethic, service to his country, unwavering love for his family, generous spirit, and extraordinary craftsmanship. The legacy he built through his service, kindness, and artistry will continue to live on in the lives he touched, and the many beautiful creations he leaves behind.
