Larry was born to Louren Franklin Claypool and Mabel Sylvia Sorenson Claypool in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, on March 21, 1936. The family eventually moved to Moorhead, Minnesota. During his high school years, Larry played basketball but moved onto a love of bowling and horseshoes as an adult. After high school, Larry enlisted in the United States Air Force and served two years as a combat medic stationed in Germany. One of his fondest memories of his time there was riding his Harley Davidson through the German countryside.
Larry married Helen Mae Anderson on November 17, 1961. Together, they raised five children. Larry worked as a forklift operator for Motor Freight Company and later became a CNA. After his retirement, Larry enjoyed visiting with his family and watching wrestling. Larry’s kindness and uplifting sense of humor will be remembered by those who knew him throughout his life. While being cared for at the Veterans care facility, staff often commented about his kind personality and sense of humor.
Larry is survived by his children, Tim (Teri), Lawrence II, Jeffrey, Michelle (Eric), Brian (Teresa); grandchildren, James, Katherine, Minuet, Matthew, Myleigh, Holly, Kalli, Kyle, Brad, Briana, Nora and Wyatt; his sister, Irene "Renee"; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents and his grandson, Nicholaus.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm on Monday, September 12, 2022 at Gearhart Funeral Home, 11275 Foley Blvd NW, Coon Rapids, Minnesota 55448. Visitation one hour prior. He will be laid to rest following the service at Morningside Memorial Gardens in Coon Rapids, Minnesota, 11800 University Ave NW, Coon Rapids, MN.
