Leo Timothy Young, 80, passed away the morning of June 25, 2018. He was born April 6, 1938, to Leo and Tresa Young and raised in Meeker County. On Nov. 27, 1958, he wedded Patricia (Farnquist) Young; they were married 59 1/2 years. They have lived in Coon Rapids since 1961. Leo was a member of the Church of St. Paul in Ham Lake.

Always one to take responsibility, Leo worked with his hands and ingenuity to provide for his family as a farmer, truck driver, carpenter and siding applicator. He wasn’t afraid to do whatever he needed to do to take care of his loved ones, and he always finished what he started.

Leo was an expert handyman with a knack for numbers. Whether asking for a 7/16 wrench while fixing a car or estimating the length of a piece of siding from 10 feet away, he always knew the right size.

An avid hunter and fisherman, he enjoyed the outdoors and the thrill of the chase. He also relaxed by mowing his lawn and spending time at his cabin.

Leo liked to play golf, tell stories and play games with his family. He was a gifted storyteller with a sense of humor and a distinctive, contagious laugh. His luck at cards – or any game – never seemed to run out.

No matter what he did, his favorite coffee cup was usually nearby.

Family and friends will remember Leo as a man of action and resourcefulness with a can-do attitude, who was generous with his time and talents. The epitome of a family man, he showed his love with actions, as well as words.

Leo is survived by his spouse, Patricia (Farnquist) Young; six children, Dawn Young (Perry Pfitzer), Diane (Gregory) Dietz, David (Dijea) Young, Dori (Antwan) Harris, Deneen Young and Dustin (Cheryle) Young; siblings Carol (Ray) Wagner, Douglas (Betty) Young, Dorothy (Joe) Wolter, Mary (Bob) VanNurden, Elizabeth Bryant (Bill Durand), Patty (Donny) Linz and Darrell Young; 20 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Tresa Young, brothers Robert Young and David Young, sister-in-law Leona Young, and great-grandson Aiden Young.

I'm trying to think of a time Leo yelled at me, I can't. That's not to say I was not sent back home before the sleepover began. His 3rd time to the trailer in the backyard, we knew it was over. Believe it or not David was the trouble maker. Being invited to dinner by Leo to try duck for the first time is a memory I'll always remember. Our family did not miss out on his generosity, many times when my Dad was unable to do certain things Leo never hesitated to get it done. Before I was told Leo took care of it, I already knew that and I was glad he was our neighbor.

I will never forget how wonderful Leo was to me and my family when we needed help. He was always there to help me fix my car or fix something at my house like when he and my Son Scott sided my house etc. He was always there so willing and I could never thank his enough. He was the closest thing to a father my son ever had as he taught him how to hunt and fish .
From your Sister-in-law, Shari
And thank you my dear sister Patty for being so willing let him share his time with me when I need help.
Love you both, Shari
